    There are other things to consider, especially if you have health restrictions. I look at SUGAR first, since my husband is diabetic. I look at CARBS second, since that affects blood sugar. Then, I might look at calories and fats. Other people might be looking at SODIUM or CHOLESTEROL amounts first …..Suggested serving sizes are usually way too small, but only good to determine the actual number of the other ingredients in what YOUR serving would be

    none of the above….. look at the percentage of fat in total calories. Regardless of the serving size, the percentage will not change.

    Divide the calories of total fat by the total calories per serving, and this gives you the percentage of fat in the food. The American Heart Association recommends a maximum of 30% of your calories should come from fat.

    The second thing to look at is the amount of saturated fat…. it should not exceed about a fourth of the total fat grams.
